BUS 497: INTERNATIONAL CORPORATE FINANCE

This course applies the concepts and principles of corporate finance to the multinational corporation. A corporation that operates across national borders faces risks not faced by a purely domestic corporation, such as changing exchange rates and changing political environments. Distance, cultural differences, and different legal, tax, and accounting systems compound the problems of a corporation that expands abroad. Corporations operating internationally also face unique opportunities, such as new markets, alternative funding opportunities, increased diversification, and production or distribution efficiencies. The course focuses on gaining an understanding of the international financial environment, on measuring and managing foreign exchange rate risk, on evaluating foreign direct investment, and on understanding global financing activities.
